Bow Lake, Alberta is located on the Bow River in the Canadian Rockies, at an altitude of 1920m. It is one of the largest lakes in Banff National Park.
The lake is located right off the beautiful Icefields Parkway, so it is an easy stop on your journey to Jasper, Alberta.

The calm mountain lake is the perfect place to explore via canoe or stand-up paddle board, rent a craft from an outdoor outfitter in Banff, or opt for a tour.
I have visited Bow Lake multiple times, and the views never disappoint. Stunning glaciers surround the turquoise blue lake and flow with infinite patience, forming the headwaters that flow down the Bow River to Banff and beyond.

This particular visit was for a September sunrise. It was a 2 1/2 hour drive from Calgary, so leaving early for sunrise was a must.I brought my rubber boots on this occasion, as I was thinking I might need to go into the water. I used the flow from the creek as a leading line to bring your eye to Crowfoot Mountain. This photo was taken with my Canon 6d, Canon 16-35mm L lens. My settings were f/16, 16mm, 0.6 sec., 100 ISO, on a tripod.
