New Brunswick presents some difficulties for landscape photographers.
First of all, New Brunswick is covered in more than 75 per cent forest, making finding a majestic location difficult. We just don’t have too many classic locations. Not to say New Brunswick is not a great place to live, it is. As a landscape photographer, you will have to work harder to create great landscape photographs.
However, how do you overcome these difficulties as a landscape photographer? One important element in all landscapes is the great light. You will have to photograph New Brunswick landscapes in the morning or in evening light.
New Brunswick has a long coastline. Landscape Photographers should maybe consider seascapes. Hopewell Rock is one location for great seascapes that comes to mind.
Grand Manan for example has some great seascapes and a bonus is you can capture sunrises and sunsets within a short drive.
New Brunswick has a few beautiful lighthouses. Two that come to mind is the lighthouse on Grand Manan and Campobello Island in southwestern New Brunswick.
Also, New Brunswick has a lot of waterfalls scattered across the province. Waterfalls make excellent landscapes.
Fall colours are a great addition to what otherwise might be a boring landscape. In the fall colour reflections make for excellent photographs especially when a photographer uses the early morning or evening light.
The Saint John River spans most of New Brunswick. There are many photographic opportunities along the river when the fall colours are at their peak.
Don’t forget about combining some man-made features in your landscapes. Man-made features like churches, old farm buildings etc. can add to Landscapes.
New Brunswick can be difficult for landscapes but following some of the points I have outlined above - great landscapes can be photographed in our great province.
