One of the greatest things about photography, is that you can enjoy it in every season. In winter, as long as you bundle up, it’s so fun to get outdoors and shoot. I find hot shots are a must on these days, as it’s always my fingers and toes that freeze first.

This winter I’ve really enjoyed finding birds in the snow. It really adds to the composition, and shows their beauty! I’m amazed how warm their feathers will keep them. Even little birds like Black-capped Chickadees are able to stay warm on the coldest of days!

I shoot birds with my Canon 90d, Canon 100-400ii L lens. I usually shoot birds at a lower shutter speed, unless I am trying to get them in flight. 1/500 will show more detail, and allow more light to come in on the grey days. (Of course, if the bird decides to fly it will be blurry)

I will set my aperture at f5.6, depending on the light. I use Auto ISO when shooting birds.
I hope you enjoy these photos of birds in the snow. Spring is coming!

A quote from Hehmet Merat ildan:“Feed the birds in winter; in return, they will feed your soul with the look of gratitude “
